New sun shading for Loodswezen IJmuiden

Loodswezen IJmuiden commissioned us to replace the existing sun shading structure on the pier. Constant exposure to strong winds and salty sea air had severely deteriorated the old structure, leaving it unsuitable for these conditions. The requirement was a durable, low-maintenance solution capable of withstanding the elements.

Our site supervisor Johan and draughtsperson Justin visited the site to take measurements and develop a suitable solution.

The solution

Our design team developed a completely new aluminium structure. Lightweight, strong and corrosion-resistant, aluminium is well suited to marine environments. A black powder coating provides additional protection against wear, salt and moisture, helping the frame retain its clean appearance for years to come.

The design combines minimal maintenance requirements with high resistance to the harsh weather conditions on the pier.

Fabrication and installation

The new frame was fabricated in collaboration with our partner Special Metals, a specialist in bespoke aluminium fabrication. Following production, the structure was powder-coated black for added durability.

Once the components were ready, our installation team used a mobile crane to remove the old frame and position the new sun shading structure. The entire installation was completed within one week.

The result

A robust, low-maintenance sun shading structure designed to withstand severe weather. The aluminium frame and durable powder coating provide long-term resistance to wind and salty sea air.

The finished structure is both functional and a visual improvement to the site.
