Electric motor rewinding

Motor failure and a long lead time for a replacement? That could mean extended downtime for your installation. In our own rewinding workshop, we restore your motor so it’s quickly back in action.

Get your motor back in service without waiting for a replacement

A new electric motor isn’t always immediately available. If delivery time is longer than the time required for repairs, rewinding can bring your installation back up and running sooner. We assess the failed winding and determine the feasible repair options. We discuss the work and the estimated turnaround in advance, so you can make an informed choice between rewinding or replacing.

Especially with older, specialised or complex drives, rewinding requires expert knowledge. Our experienced winders restore the existing motor while maintaining the original dimensions and connections, so it can be reinstalled without modifications. We handle both small and large winding jobs and manufacture high-voltage coils and water-cooled coils in our own coil shop. Our in-house VPI installation and high-voltage test facilities allow us to impregnate and test the windings ourselves.

  • An alternative for long lead times

If a new motor isn’t available, or you face a long wait, rewinding means you can get the existing drive system back into operation sooner. We always discuss the options and expected turnaround in advance.

  • Large-scale winding in-house

For major rewinding projects, we perform the entire process at our workshop: from manufacturing and installing high-voltage coils to testing the new winding. We have the know-how and facilities in place for water-cooled coils as well.

  • Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI)

By applying impregnating resin under vacuum and pressure, we treat windings for high-voltage motors and generators. This supports electrical insulation and protects against moisture and contamination.

  • Our own coil shop

We manufacture coils in-house at our own coil shop, which means we can control dimensions, material selection and production directly in line with the rewinding work and the required schedule.

How does motor rewinding work?

We investigate the failed winding and the cause of the damage to the electric motor. Next, we determine which repairs are required to restore the motor. When we rewind, we replace the damaged winding and fit new insulation. We take the original construction and the operating conditions into account throughout the process.

We carry out repairs in accordance with NEN-EN-IEC 60034-23 for the repair and overhaul of rotating electrical machines. After completion, we inspect and test the motor and record the results. This gives you clarity on the work performed and the test outcomes before the motor returns to service.

Frequently asked questions

What does rewinding an electric motor involve?

When we rewind an electric motor, we replace the faulty winding. We install new windings and insulation and test the motor after the repair. This allows you to reuse your existing drive system.

When is rewinding a better option than replacing the motor?

Rewinding can be the best solution if a replacement motor is not available, has a long lead time, or if switching requires modifications to your installation. We assess the condition of your motor and discuss the costs and turnaround time so you can compare rewinding with replacement.

Will the electric motor still fit in the same location after rewinding?

Yes. When we rewind a motor, we retain the existing motor, original dimensions and connections. No adaptations to the installation are needed.
